A Somerville man became so enraged at his elderly upstairs neighbor on May 21 that police were concerned for his health.

Austin Avelar, 23, of 48 Florence St., allegedly threatened his neighbor and when police came to the door began shouting and yelling obscenities at them.

When officers forced their way in Avelar was in the kitchen in a fighting stance, police said. Officers were able to cuff Avelar but he managed to knee and kick an officer in the groin three times, police said.

Police called an ambulance for Avalar, who is asthmatic but he would not calm down, they said. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault and battery on a police officer.
