The assault case against Somerville Police Officer Christopher Gomes has been dismissed.
Cambridge District Court Judge Jonathan Brant dismissed the case on June 2, citing inconsistent statements from the victim.
The victim initially told police that Gomes hit her with "the expandable thing that police carry" in a domestic dispute in April and showed visible bruises to investigators.
Gomes, who joined the department in 2008, pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon at an arraignment on April 29 in Somerville District Court. He was placed on paid administrative leave following the incident and ordered to surrender his firearm, police said.
Michael McGrath, president of the Somerville police patrol union, said the woman allegedly broke into a wooden cabinet and stole Gomes' firearm.
