The process to pick Somerville’s next police chief is nearing its final stage.
Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and other city officials last week began the first of four visits to the police departments and agencies of the final candidates with a trip to Washington, D.C., where candidate Thomas Pasquarello works as special agent in charge and area police director of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration.
Curtatone will be joined on the visits by Alderman-at-Large Jack Connolly and Director of Personnel Jessie Baker, Chief of Staff Janice Delory, and SomerStat Director Tara Acker.
This week, the group will visit the Lowell Police Department and Haverhill Police Department and conduct interviews with members of the Somerville Police Department.
In addition to Pasquarello, the remaining three finalists are: Acting Somerville Police Chief Michael Cabral, Haverhill Police Chief Alan DeNaro and Lowell Police Captain William Taylor.
“I am extremely confident that these home visits will further reinforce the fact that any of these finalists would be a great choice for the Somerville community,” Curtatone said.
During the visits, Mayor Curtatone and the rest of the interview panel will meet with members of each police department and community leaders before a final candidate is presented to the Board of Aldermen for consideration later this summer. A new chief is expected to be named by early fall.
