Don’t forget next Tuesday, November 4, is Election Day. It’s our duty to go out and vote so we can have a say in what’s happening. Everyone should vote. There should be a line a mile long at each polling place. All the candidates that are running for office have worked hard for your consideration.

Coming up next week, November 6, The Somerville Rotary Club will be having its annual charitable event that is being held at Giggles, the Comedy Club, on Route 1 in Saugus. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. There will be lots of interesting stuff for its auction and raffles. The cost is $25 for pizza, laughs and the opportunity to help Rotary support many local charities here in the City of Somerville. Tickets sold at the door. Don’t miss it. Happy Birthday to some of our fans and readers around the Ville: Happy Birthday to Helena Lafuente, the wife of Tony. It looks like Tony robbed the cradle here. Also, Happy Birthday wishes go out to Dennis Sullivan, who is a brand new dad as well. Dennis is one of the four Aldermen at Large, and we hope he has a great day. Happy Birthday to Barry Rollins, who is known throughout the city. We hope he has a great day for himself. Also celebrating this week is our own Clifton Verdieu, who grew up here and is now married. They are expecting a new baby very soon. It’s probably going to be a girl since that’s the norm lately. We wish him the very best. He’s also a local real estate agent here in Somerville. Our good friend Dick Hart, a man with many friends and relatives, an awesome guy, is always a willing and a chartable man. He has enough grandkids to fill up a room. A happy birthday to Erin DiBenedetto, who is from Somerville but now in Medford and serves on the school board over there. We certainly wish her all the best as well. Another big happy birthday to former Alderman and present SRA board member, the one and only James “Jim” McCarthy Senior who is celebrating this week. We don’t want to make a big deal out of it, but he is a nice guy and is still very popular here in Somerville.

Well known local Attorney Phillip Privitera, who served as Past President recently of the Middlesex Bar Association, will be honored on November 6 at the Montvale Plaza by his peers for outstanding service to the Association for the past two years. Attorney Privitera is a great family man, attorney and all around nice guy. We wish him the very best and congratulate him on receiving this award. We hopefully will have pictures to show. He deserves the honor by his peers.

Ward 6 Alderman Rebekah Gewirtz and her husband Andrew will be having a baby soon. Her due date is on Election Day, and how appropriate since mom is an Alderman. We hear she’s voting by absentee ballot just in case. We wish both her, her husband and baby all the very best.

Matthew is head of Best Pest here in Somerville, located on Elm Street. It’s been a family business for many years with his famous dad Rod. And we mean, who doesn’t know Rod?

Over in Medford, City Councilor Adam Knight is having a fundraiser on Wednesday, November 19, at the Medford Elks on Washington Street (off Salem Street exit). Adam is very familiar with Somerville and worked at Senator Charlie Shannon’s office for a few years. Adam is newly elected in the last city elections over there and he’s a very popular person in both cities.

Ward 3 Alderman Rob McWatters, the “contingents service Alderman,” is going to have a fundraiser after the elections on November 19 at Sally O’Brien’s on Somerville Avenue. He’s very popular here in the city and we wouldn’t be surprised to see the place packed. We did hear he’s going to have some surprise guests who might just attend.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Somerville Police Officer Robert Hickey who on Monday was in an accident in Gilman Square, he was taken to Massachusetts General and we hope he is back on his feet soon with a quick recovery.
