A professor in ethno-musicology and her daughter enjoy performing together at the platform of the Davis Square MBTA subway stop.

“Davis Square is my favorite station to play at because its natural resonance and fantastic mezzanines allow my to really throw my voice,” said Harriotte H. Ranvig, whose academic specialty is the classical music of Northern India.

As she played her guitar, she was accompanied by her daughter, Mia B. Ranvig, 14, on the recorder.

Mia usually plays the violin, her mother said.

“I moved to Davis Square in 1983 because I was working in downtown Boston, and I wanted to be close to the subway station when it opened,” she said.
