City police officers arrested a man Sept. 27 matching the description of a burglar who was fleeing a breaking and entering at 327 Washington St.

The arresting officer, Steve St. Hilaire, said in his report that he and Officer Mario Oliveira responded to the call and apprehended Jeffery Banos, 23, of 47 Hanson St., after a witness made a positive identification.

The call came into the Somerville police’s control desk shortly before midnight, he said. The caller told the desk that the burglar, a thin, white male in a grey tee-shirt, had left the scene and was running towards Dane Street.

St. Hilaire went to 327 Washington St., where he met the caller, who was standing in front of his house, described to the officer how the burglar had attempted to gain access to his basement by opening the bulkhead door, he said.

Oliveira, meanwhile, went to Dane Street, where he stopped a man answering the burglar’s description. He radioed St. Hilaire, who brought the caller Dane Street and the arrest was made he said.
