Mackey Garners Union Endorsement

The Painters and Allied Trades District Council #35 has announced its endorsement of Joseph K. Mackey in the special election for the late Charles E. Shannon’s Second Middlesex Senate District seat.

"Joe Mackey is the only candidate for the seat that has shown the ability to balance responsible community development and much needed job creation in this district," said John Laughlin, the Political Director of the 4,000-member union.

"As the only candidate to vote in support of the Assembly Square Mall development, Joe supports creating hundreds of construction jobs and thousands of long term jobs in this district," Laughlin said.

"Joe Mackey has earned our endorsement."

“I’m proud of the painters’ endorsement and I look forward to working with them to address the needs of working families in our district," said Mackey, who had a  96% labor voting record during his tenure as a state representative.

The attorney and Harvard graduate said that the 2nd Middlesex Senate district’s working families need a strong legislator to ensure that the area is a safe and viable place for working families to live and raise a family.

"It is vitally important that our next State Senator follows in the footsteps of Sen. Shannon – approaching the job with the integrity, commitment and vision that characterize the hardworking people of Medford, Somerville, Winchester and Woburn and making real gains for our citizens," Mackey said.

Laughlin said that Mackey exemplifies the best of neighbor and progressive concerns and has a combination of skills and dedication that will result in real gains.

If Mackey is elected, local workers will have a senator who works for results, not politics, he said.

"I believe that I am the person for the job, and I’m honored that the Painters and Allied Trades DC #35 agrees,” Mackey said.
