News Talk for the week of Sept. 27

The hearing on Max Pak was scheduled for last Thursday with about 20-30 people showing up to see Alderman Sean O‚ÄôDonovan withdraw the zoning proposal.  Lots of residents were shocked and nobody‚Äôs talking – except we heard that a long time resident suggested/threatened some city officials, saying that they might want to withdraw it.  We heard that a lot of luncheons and dinners were held by KSS Development member Mr. Smith (the Kennedy connection) over the past few months ‚Äì so this isn‚Äôt making him happy either.  As of now we hear its status quo – except don‚Äôt be surprised when you hear they sold the parcel to another developer or organization – we won‚Äôt be.

Now Joanie, the well-known former Meter Patrol lady and one of the subjects of the mural that was painted over at Brooks Pharmacy, has told us that there will be a meeting at 27 College Avenue (Ciampa Manor) on October 3rd at 6:30pm.  They‚Äôre going to discuss the possibility of a new mural on that wall and how much it will cost – we also hear that one or two TV news teams are going to be there.

The hearing by Alderman chairman Tom Taylor on the Proposed Condo Ordinance is set for October 10.  We certainly hope that those concerned will show up.

Good Times Emporium will host a night of hope for local area resident Denige Trial. With doors opening at 8:00pm on September 30th, Boston area radio pros, musicians, fans and patrons are joining together to help Denige Trial in her deepest time of need. Diagnosed with brain cancer, Denige has undergone surgery to remove half of the tumor found in her brain. With expenses in the thousands above the 45 percent coverage of her insurance policy, Denige is up against a tough situation to continue her battle with the life threatening cancer.

Who was that crazed man driving down the wrong side of Highland Ave. Tuesday morning, screaming at bewildered and frightened motorists? We don’t know but he had a City Hall permit on his window so maybe it was Mike, ah, never mind.

The Mayor was treated to another fundraiser last week – this time hosted by none other than Herb Chambers on his private 100+ foot long yacht.  We heard from sources that it was well attended and all had a great time.

Say it ain’t so Bob, say it ain’t so! We heard that on Election Day, Ward 7 Alderman Bob Trane was seen chumming around with his new progressive friends all day working for Deval Patrick. Our source tells us he was even seen standing side by side with former foe Marty Martinez, holding a Deval for Governor sign, and chumming around with his new progressive posse all day at Carl Sciortino’s headquarters.

Deval Patrick won big time last week in the Democratic Primary and it looks good for all the local politicians that supported him.  We honestly thought Desmond would do much better in Somerville and throughout the county – he certainly spent enough money.

This coming Saturday at 3:00pm the city will host “The Liberty POPS” in concert at the City Hall Concourse – it’s free and should be a nice time Рthanks to Frank Senesi of Veterans Services for another job well done.

Also this Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at 125 Highland Avenue (The Masonic Building), the Public Installation of Bro. Steve Post will be held and Wor. Billy Tauro will be going out of office.  Billy has been very active in getting the Lodge more visible by helping hold two CHIPs programs in the city and donations to both the Fire Department and Police Department of defibrillators.  King Solomon‚Äôs Lodge is very active and is over 200 years old – for more information, you‚Äôre welcomed to come attend the public installation.
