A 15 year-old Malden boy was shot on Sewall Street last Wednesday night, hit in the lung with a bullet fired from a passing car.

Police said the car was small and dark and was carrying three or four people.

According to a witness who did not want her name used, the boy fell to the ground and yelled for help after being hit by the gunfire.

Police said he was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries. He is expected to survive.

A police source said detectives believe the shooting was gang related and have identified possible suspects. Captain Paul Upton would not confirm those details.

“Everything is on the table right now,” he said.

Ward Four Alderman Walter Pero said since the shooting neighbors have been uncomfortable walking the streets at night.

‚ÄúMyself, I’m a bit uneasy too when it gets to be 9 at night. I’ll usually stay inside when it’s that late,‚Äù he said.

Malden and Somerville have been linked by death and gun violence in the last two weeks. In addition to last week’s shooting, Pauline Darilus, a Somerville teen, was killed on March 21 in a fiery crash in Malden that also killed a 22-year-old Malden man and sent Darilus’ friend to the hospital.

Police are urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact detectives at 617-625-1212.
