The case of the missing money, this time at the Registry of Probate’s Office Рapparently the keen eyes of our Registrar John Buonomo and his Deputy caught a county employee who apparently was dipping into the till, rumors all over the court house and the amount estimates vary, but they’re still investigating it we hear. We know the Registrar Рwe all know he’s relentless when it comes to something like this and we know he will get to the bottom of it and soon.

Dedication to the new field house and an end to construction at Trum field will be this coming Tuesday June 10 at 6 p.m., a lot of the players and spectators are going to be very happy. Apparently the Sloane family (owners of Century Bank) has given a substantial amount of money to help the cause – guess the city has decided that it was enough money to name the building after the Sloane family. We‚Äôre wondering how much does it cost to get something named after you, if you‚Äôre still living that is – we heard all those new benches and $4,500 trash receptacles around the city could get names. Think of it ‚Äì the ‚ÄúWinter Hill Barracuda Bench‚Äù or benches‚Ķshe‚Äôd of course want several of them though.

The recent “Somerville goes to Gatea” trip is over and everyone is back Рwe heard one person while over there entered a “butt pinching contest” and won Рwe heard it was someone from Traffic & Parking, so watch yourself out there we have a sort of champion pincher. We also heard that despite Mayor Joe’s insiting on everyone pays for their trip, one Department Head (who we won’t mention here) apparently didn’t hear that, we heard she got enough people to go on the trip to not have to pay.

Gentle Giant Moving Company apparently isn‚Äôt so gentle lately…we heard rumblings out there from several non-profits that have recently used them for moving a few large items weren‚Äôt happy. They used to have a two-hour minimum, which still cost $200, but a fair time allotment. Now you must promise four hours in the a.m. or three hours in the p.m. or they won‚Äôt move anything for you. Times get tough, but they get tougher? Thank goodness for competition!

With all the streets and sidewalk repairs going on, what does a homeowner do when the workers do such a lousy job on putting in a new sidewalk that the water in the rainstorm now leaks continually into a front yard, forming an unwanted swimming pool? Isn’t the city supposed to be watching over these things?

After all the Veterans fuss over the naming of the High School Concourse, columnist (and former publisher of this newspaper) Bob Publicover suggests that we simply name “The Anthony V. Fedele Somerville High School.” Simple. Tony did more than perhaps any one person for the schools here Рincluding starting the Somerville High Scholarship Foundation – that has managed to raise over one million dollars in its endowment. It would be a fitting tribute.
