Nine veteran Head Start teachers at the Community Action Agency of Somerville (CAAS) received awards for 20 or more years of service from the Cambridge Blue Ribbon Commission on Early Childhood Education at a reception at Cambridge City Hall.

“Since 2007, CAAS has offered high-quality early education and care to children in both Cambridge and Somerville,” Executive Director Kimberly Smith-Cofield noted.  “The federal government recently gave CAAS Head Start a perfect 100% on its evaluation of our program.  CAAS Head Start teachers are the best, and we are proud that Cambridge recognized what they give to the community.”

The Blue Ribbon Commission was chaired by Cambridge City Councilor Marjorie Decker and School Committee and School Committee member Marc McGovern.

The mission of the Community Action Agency of Somerville (CAAS) is to reduce poverty among local families and individuals while working to counteract, and whenever possible eliminate, the societal conditions that cause and perpetuate poverty.  For more information, see http://www.caasomerville.org/, or them on Facebook.
