Last weeks countywide caucus in Waltham was a very exciting event, there were lots of candidates running for the Democratic nomination for Middlesex County Register of Probate seat, which will appear, on the ballot in November. Four orderly ballots were taken before the winner, Ms. Tara DeChristofaro from Medford, who already works at the Registry, won. Rumors were flying about deals here and there, but on the last ballot, Tara beat out Sean O’Donovan by a wide enough margin. In the end, unity prevailed amongst the Democratic members present and they applauded Ms. DeChristofaro for her victory.

Don’t forget the hearings on the Condo Conversion Ordinance being proposed again with Princess Rebekah are before the Board of Alderman Legislative Subcommittee on Thursday October 2nd up at City Hall. They keep saying it’s new and has the endorsement of the Greater Boston Real Estate Board Рdon’t be fooled, it doesn’t and the GBREB is in the process of sending out letters saying that they do not in any way endorse this ordinance. Oh, its true they got the CEO of the Board to sit on the committee, but he lived in Somerville for 15 years as a tenant. Seems Princess Rebekah didn’t bother to ask a local realtor or any of the 100 plus local realtors doing business and making a living in Somerville to be on the committee Рjust merely a staff person from Boston – so as to give the illusion that it’s all new and supported by board members and property owners. By any other name its still a form of Rent Control and some of us that lived through it in the 70s know exactly how much harm it did to Somerville.

This Friday nights retirement party for Ellie Blute at the Dante Club is shaping up to be a Mayor Dorothy Kelly Gay reunion, we hear that a lot of those associated with former Mayor Dot will be on hand, including her former Assistant Cathy, which they probably had to send her a letter, since she’s infamous for not returning phone calls. Again, good luck to Ellie in her retirement Рshe will be missed by many, we wish her the best.
