Looks like Lt. Governor Murray will have second thoughts about his many conversations with Chelsea Housing Commissioner Mike McLaughlin, as everyone knows Mike used to be County Commissioner of Middlesex County as well as the Commissioner of Somerville Housing, way back in the 70’s and 80’s. Apparently Mike fibbed on his income over there in Chelsea.  Another rumor going around now is that Murray might get associated with McLaughlin. Our own popular Mayor Joe Curtatone is seriously thinking of taking his great record forward and just might consider running for Governor himself, but that won’t be until 2014.

Maryann Heuston of Ward 2 is seriously going to test the waters of running for Registrar of Deeds. That would make two formidable ladies from Somerville who would go after this seat, the other being Attorney Maria Curtatone, who won the “Best of Somerville” Attorney. The seat will be vacated by Eugene Brune. Another person, former Registrar of Probate Bob Antonelli, is said to be throwing his hat in the ring for Registrar of Deeds. Wasn’t Bob Antonelli removed from office when he was the Register of Probate, didn’t he threaten a judge?  Maybe he’s counting on the fact that it’s an office no one thinks about and his name is first on the ballot? Maybe he thinks people will forget he was removed from office – or will they?

Next week on Tuesday, December 13, from 11 a.m. to 2p.m., is the City of Somerville’s 2011 Council on Aging Christmas Party. This year’s annual event will be held at the Somerville Winter Hill Yacht Club who is generously sponsoring and hosting the event again. Our condolences to the families of Generas Frances who passed away recently. She was a wonderful person and will be sadly missed here in the ‘Ville. Also, condolences as well to the family of Antoinette Vendetti who passed away this weekend.  Our condolences to the family and friends of Joan Guarino who passed away this past Saturday. Joan was a lifelong community activist here down at East Somerville. Many people are sad at her passing, she was ill for a long time. Condolences to the family Helen McCain who passed on last week. Helen was a very nice person, a lifelong Somerville resident and mother to Somerville Police Department’s Joe McCain. She was also the daughter of another well known Somerville citizen, Archie Dunn.

The Somerville News recently announced new additions on their way to the paper. Ever growing as a newspaper group with the recent opening of the Cambridge News Weekly, and coming soon the opening of The Medford News. Working several new additions to the family, with a group of papers opening online in 2012 and shortly afterwards hitting the streets in print. The new editions are The Everett News Weekly, The Malden News Weekly, The Melrose News, The Tewksbury News, The Stoneham News, The Arlington News and the Boston News Weekly.  Ten varieties of cities with ten times the local news!   Look for us soon again as we plan on opening ten more news outlets in 2013 as well in many more cities and towns near you as we continue to expand throughout the state. A lot of people outside of Somerville have been reading our paper and like the fact we are only local news and local stories on locals. We leave the area news to The Journal, Globe and Herald, and take our brand of papers.

Happy Birthday here in the ‘Ville to Peter Blaikie of Winter Hill. A nice guy who’s busy with work and his family. Also Nancy Moccia over at Victors Deli in Ball Square. You can always catch Nancy with a big smile that brightens everyone’s day that stops in. Maybe that’s why it’s always busy?  Also Winter Hill popular family member Barney Doherty is also celebrating his birthday, this week. A special Happy Birthday and best wishes this week to Stacey Hershey Buckley, a nice lady who is from a great Somerville family. Another well known ‘Villen here for many years (over 70 we hear) is a good friend and mentor to some of us here, Bill Murphy. A great guy.

We can’t say who, because we promised, but after the first of the year one Ward Alderman is seriously considering mounting a challenge to incumbent Senator Pat Jehlen now that the district has included North Cambridge. We hear some other names, one a present Alderman who has a big head over his re-election, has been telling people he might run for higher office next year as well. That will be something since he can’t muster double figures for any campaign workers in his previous elections. But who knows? Maybe he’ll get ten people or more. We doubt it…should be interesting.
