The St. Clement Anchormen celebrated a hard-fought victory over the Trinity Catholic Falcons last Thursday.

For the fourth straight year the St. Clement Anchormen feasted on the Trinity Catholic Falcons of Network during the annual Thanksgiving Day Catholic Central matchup.

Senior Co-captain Michael Julce (Malden) helped cap off a winning season for the Anchormen by leading all rushers with 144 yards and three TDs on ten carries.

Both teams came up empty on their first drives of the game. Julce opened the game up in the first quarter by grabbing a pass from junior QB Jamey Thompson (Somerville). Andrew Carvahlo (Somerville) kicked the extra point and the Anchormen were up by 7 early. On the next drive, senior co-captain Mathew Pereira (Somerville) pounded the ball into the end zone on five consecutive carries to up the lead to 13-0. Junior Oyaronbi (Malden) intercepted a Falcon pass on the next drive to setup a nine-yard run by Julce. Carvahlo added another extra point to make the score 20-0.

“We really relied on our seniors to get us off to a great start, and they did,” said Head Coach Colin Walsh. In the second half, Julce put on a show for the crowd with a 45-yard touchdown run by eluding three Falcon defenders and breaking a tackle to put the game out of reach.

“I have coached many backs in my career, and that was the best run I have seen here at St. Clements in many years!” said Colin Walsh. Laguerre Charles added a 12 yard run for his first career TD.

St. Clement finishes the season with a 6-4 record, securing the school’s first winning season in 24 years. The Anchormen are looking forward to next season with nearly all of their starters returning.
