A strong pitching performance from Jen Toner. The Somerville Storm is on a roll, capturing four consecutive wins while improving its already impressive record.

The Somerville Storm U14 softball team racked up a pair of wins on the road and a win at home this week bringing their winning streak to four games heading into the last week of the season.

The Storm started this week with a 13-5 victory over Tri-Town in Pittsfield.  The Storm defense was solid and the offense put enough hits together in their first game to grab the win behind a strong pitching performance from Jen Toner.  Toner scattered six hits over six innings striking out four.

Defensively, the Storm recorded fourteen putouts in the field behind only a pair of errors.  As a team they pounded out thirteen hits led by the hot hitting of Brianna Dell’Isola, who was a perfect four for four from the plate with a home run, a triple and three runs scored.  Emily O’Regan continued her strong rookie year by scoring three times, and Dierdra Matthews jump started the team in the lead-off position going two for four with two runs scored.  Kayla O’Regan and Brenna Foristall each added a pair of hits and runs scored.  Marissa Toner lined her first hit as a member of the Storm and scored a run.

On Thursday the Storm hosted Tewskbury and worked hard for a 9-8 win, ending the game with two outstanding defensive plays in centerfield by Charlotte Schofield, sealing the win in the top of the seventh.  Amolee Hawkins went the distance striking out thirteen while giving up only two hits.

Dell’Isola continued her hot hitting going two for three with two runs scored and an RBI.  The win exemplified the full-team effort again by the Storm who continue to play strong defense, a balanced offense, and solid pitching.  After taking a 7-3 through the first five innings, Tewksbury rallied to score four runs in the top of the 6th to tie the game.  Somerville moved two runners around to score in the bottom of the sixth, and after a walk and defensive error, the defense held solid on the next three batters to secure the 9-8 victory.

Friday night, the Storm won their fourth game in a row with a great win on the road against the Burlington Heat. Jen Toner again went the distance for the win and the Storm hitting exploded for twenty-two runs on fifteen hits. Emily Woodman was a perfect two for two at the plate with three walks and three runs scored.

Dell’Isola was four for five at the plate with four runs and three RBI’s while Amolee Hawkins was three for five with four runs scored and an RBI. The Storm scored runs in every inning, and eight of nine girls scored a run.  And despite not scoring, Nevalee Hawkins pitched in at the plate going one for three with two RBI’s in her Storm debut.  Defensively, Kayley Conte was strong behind the plate and finished the game with a catch at third base, and scored twice. Rookie Emily Liberato continued solid hitting, crushing one down the third base line in the first, walking twice and scoring three runs.

The win on Friday topped off a successful week for the Storm who scored runs in fifteen of nineteen innings, on 39 hits, scoring 44 runs in three games.  The winning streak brings the U14 Storm record to 8-4 on the season, moving them into the top ten in the MiddleEssex standings with two games remaining in the season.

The Storm will finish their season this week with a game at Trum Field against Everett on Wednesday night.

The U14 Somerville Storm are also proud to recognize our representatives at this year’s MiddleEssex All-Star game to be held in Billerica on Saturday, August 6.
