Season for pain

I’ve been told for every season
There comes a change.
And whenever we fall
There is always a reason.
We are armed for the eternal fight
Of death and our daily strife-
And we go through life
Gripping the handle of a knife.
The subliminal ideal-
Is subdued by the limits of time,
And dreams of freedom,
Has become ours not, now mine.
We are called the “fallen”.
All our weak voices are calling
Against the reality of sin-
Shameful secrets hidden in the din-
Of the morning-
And we all have broken stories.
Nothing remains-
Even love that’s promised eternal,
We are still destined for failure.
Where is the season for pain?
The guns are resounding,
And hope is shot and slain.
What is the reason for hearts of stone?
We are lost, struggling and alone.
Where is the wonder
And the promise of joy?
When will we breathe
That sweet air of winning glory?
If we leave now-
Will we be remembered?
Will our marks remain
Like the rings within the bark of a tree?
If somewhere far we go
Will you replace this dream,
And set every memory we had, free?
Now we must close our eyes-
Let this all pass us by-
And imagine we are floating in a sky,
So blue, so new, so far, so wide.

– Rasha Zahid
