The View From Prospect Hill – May 4

It’s been said that what’s good for the body is also good for the soul. This concept is debatable, of course, but we couldn’t agree more in the case of the annual Somerville Spring Clean-Up, which took place this past weekend throughout our city.
People of all ages and backgrounds came together to participate in an annual tradition that unites them in the common goal of making the town a cleaner and less cluttered place to live. As trash and random debris was gathered and disposed of, volunteer workers cheerfully created a holiday-like atmosphere as they labored unselfishly for the good of the community.

After the Cleanup, the community BBQ held at the Blessing of the Bay Boathouse on Shore Drive helped to cement the feel-good quality of the event, as the participants relaxed with some well-deserved food, refreshments, and fine fellowship.
We salute the hard working volunteers who lent their time and energy to help clean up this, the “body” of our township, as they additionally fortified the “soul” of the community with their generous expression of civic responsibility and good will.
There’s no question about it. Giving of oneself is as good for one’s soul as anything can be. A lot of fine Somerville citizens just proved it.
