Lyrical Somerville – April 27

What is this thing called  love?  Poet Julian Gallitano has the answer, at least for him.

In Our Youth

Seek to understand

Not so much as to be understood

Somehow there is blame which lies at my fingertips as I speak to St. Francis in my prayers

Lace clouds on an auburn sunset

I dream of you and me at the beach on Cape Cod when we were children

Building sandcastles at low tide on a hot summer day

The holy tombs standing empty now in my current dreams and thoughts

A god we forgot in our adolescence

Older now, we think of justice and the pursuit of happiness

Wrong told for right, a lifetime of words speak to my emotions

And as the sun rises in the morning, and I look into your eyes over a cup of coffee

I realize

Just exactly what is love

– Julian Gallitano
