Girls track looks for success with combo of vets and newcomers

Somerville girls outdoor track coach Charles O’Rourke says after two weeks of practice the squad’s lineup is beginning to take shape.
“In the sprints and hurdles we should be fairly strong with Nicole Genard, Michel’le Meranda, Gelynne Berger, Ashley Murphy, Yemi George and newcomers Alison Kaba and Melissa Baptista. The middle distances feature Sasha Garczynski, Tayla Plett, Jessie Vasquez, Laxmi Spearing, Siobhan Murray, Meghan Lynch and Rachel Berry. The distance events could be a strong point for us with Iaritza Menjivar, Pristine Mei, Rita Musello-Kelliher, Melina Garro-Duplisea, and Maggie Langwig.
“In the throwing events we have Natalie David, Kim Joseph, Kelly Hagerty and Genard. The jumping events could be another strong point for us with Lorenza Etienne, Taija Clark, Michel’le Meranda and Emma Youte.
“The team is a nice mix of veteran talent and some potential newcomers. It’s too early to predict, but we should be ok during the course of the season.”
