Saint Clement School announced today that Head Coach and Athletic Director Shawn Thornton and senior forward Christy Novembre from Cambridge, MA earn honors at this years HOT SHOTS dinner celebration on Wednesday, March 30 at the New Balance Outlet in Brighton, MA.  The ceremony sponsored by New Balance Outlet, Sal’s Pizza and The Boston Herald began with honoring each athlete and coach who was selected by Danny Ventura, Boston Herald High School Sports Writer and his staff.

Coach Shawn Thornton recognized this season would be special not only for Christy but the Lady Anchors in general. And he was right. The team won the Catholic Central League finishing 11-1 in the league and 16-4 overall earning the team a #4 seed in the Division 4 North State Tournament.  “Christy had a special year and truly deserves to receive this award for all her accomplishments leading up and throughout her remarkable season”, said Mr. Thornton.
Danny asked Christy a variety of questions, one being, “How does it feel to score 2000 points”? Christy answered in a nervous manner, “Sometimes when they tell me how many points I score, all I can say is, ‘Wow’,’’ who recently tallied a career-high 43 points in a 66-55 win over Cathedral. “But I don’t worry about the points; my big thing is winning the game. That’s the most important thing to me,” answers Christy. “I had a lot of fun and enjoyed every second playing for Coach Thornton and something like this tops it all off,” says Ms. Novembre.

After the award ceremony ended, Boston Herald’s own Karen Guregian, Steve Conroy, and Danny Ventura along with guest speaker Frank Nuzzo, a former Everett and Brown football star addressed the audience on hot topics such as: student-athlete user fees, catholic verses public, and the difference between 3 sport athletes verses an athlete playing 1 sport and playing AAU all year long.
Christy Novembre a 5’6” senior who averaged more than 26 points per game in leading the Anchormen to a 14-3 record signed on to play for Southern New Hampshire College and is planning on studying Sports Management in the fall.
