The Somerville Public Schools’ (SPS) annual school enrollment period for prekindergarten and kindergarten students opened on January 3, 2025, and SPS staff are ready to support families through the process of enrolling their student(s). All students who will be 4 years old by August 31, 2025 are eligible for the district’s PK program. All students who will be 5 years old by August 31, 2025 are eligible for kindergarten. 189 Somerville families enrolled a student on the first weekend of the enrollment period.
SPS PK & K Enrollment Process
Parents and guardians can access the online SPS enrollment portal through the Enrollment Office website, www.somerville.k12.ma.us/enrollment.
- Prekindergarten families who complete enrollment by February 21, 2025 will be assigned a school, based on an open lottery system.
- Kindergarten families who enroll by February 21, 2025 will be eligible for the first round of school assignments through a lottery system based on Somerville School Committee policy, which prioritizes sibling preference and proximity (school to which your address is connected).
- Families who enroll after February 21, 2025 will be assigned a school based on seat availability.

Families who could benefit from interpretation or technology access are encouraged to contact the multilingual Enrollment Office team. The team is available to answer questions and support families during business hours at Central Administration. Appointments are preferred.

- Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Tuesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- The Enrollment Office is closed from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Fridays

Prior to the annual enrollment period, the SPS Enrollment Office hosts information sessions and Open Houses for all prospective students and families. In December, 2024 and January 2025, over 300 community members attended Open Houses. Families can find enrollment and school information on the SPS website.

Community Schools/Afterschool Registration
IMPORTANT: Families who are interested in enrolling their students in the Community Schools Afterschool program will need to register through a separate registration system. The Community Schools portal will be open for Somerville Public Schools students, as follows:
- Prekindergarten and Kindergarten Afterschool Registration: March 18 – 28, 2025
- Community Schools registration for returning students in grades 1 and up will also open on March 18, 2025.
Community School afterschool seats are assigned based on availability at sites and through a weighted enrollment system. For more information, visit https://somerville.k12.ma.us/afterschool.
