Life in the Ville by Jimmy Del Ponte
It’s 2025. The older I get the more my head is packed with memories. There were a lot of resolutions, and a lot of playing in bands on New Year’s Eve. Places like the DAV and Logan Post and American Legions along with private parties.
Those were fun days especially the ‘70’s when most of the music was disco. I finally decided that I’d rather be a reveler than the band guy. One year we were playing at a party and we all took home a ton of Chinese food probably from Bobos or Ming Toy. The duck sauce we brought home was in gallon jugs.
Back then we would get a room at the Holiday Inn and fill the bathtub with beer and ice. This year I will be watching sports on TV.
I asked my friends if they were making any resolutions but seems most of us are set in our ways by now. I may give up double stuff Oreos and go back to the regular ones. Here are some reader comments.
“Yes, I’m not going to let any of those losers hurt me anymore I’m all done and I’m taking care of myself.”
“I’m thinking maybe I’ll pursue my resolution this year. Which is to buy one gift every month for Christmas.” (great idea)
“To bowl a 400 again.”
“No, the only thing is to survive the first year of the poop show of four if it lasts that long.”
“Happy New Year and hoping it really is for once. Every year at New Year’s I think back to 1967 when I got married. We got our first apartment, a whole $80 a month heated. Newbury Street Teele Square.”
I hope everyone stays healthy in the new year. I also hope you have lots of memorable times with your family and loved ones. For auld lang syne my dear for auld lang syne.
We’ll take a cup of kindness yet for auld lang syne.
