Despite cool and rainy weather, the 28th annual Gobble Gobble Gobble, Somerville’s Thanksgiving Day road race hosted by the Somerville Road Runners, went off without a hitch on Thanksgiving morning.

This year’s race was the largest in the event’s 28-year history with over 3,300 registering for the event. Although the rain and cool temperatures kept some away, over 2,500 people finished the four-mile race, which started and ended in Davis Square.

Winners of the race included Brian Harvey of Belmont, who won the men’s division and the overall race, Rachel Hyland of Belmont who won the women’s division, and Alyssa Moskites of Medford, who won the non-binary division. Post-race runners enjoyed the traditional post-race party at the Burren with beer from the Mighty Squirrel.

The Gobble Gobble Gobble is one of the last remaining all-volunteer-led road races of its size, and is the largest turkey trot in metro Boston. As in previous years, the majority of the race proceeds will be donated to local charities, including the Somerville Homeless Coalition, Stride for Stride, the Somerville High School Track Pac, and the Dilboy VFW Veterans fund.

The Somerville Road Runners would like to thank the City of Somerville, the DPW, Police, and Fire Departments for all their help in preparing for the race and the race sponsors which helped produce such a great event, including Marathon Sports, Tracksmith, the Burren, the Mighty Squirrel, Puma, Picky Bars, Republic Fitness and the Teamsters Local 122.

The Somerville Road Runners (SRR) are a Somerville based running club. Founded in 1996. The club hosts several weekly group runs, track workouts, weekend long runs, and puts on several races a year, including the Gobble Gobble Gobble, the MOM’s Run, and the 26×1 Mile Club Challenge Relay.
