The Somerville Arts Council is actively seeking three to four dedicated community members to join its Board. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals with a passion for the arts to support and strengthen the vibrant cultural landscape of our city.

What is the Somerville Arts Council Board?

The Somerville Arts Council Board plays a crucial role in cultivating and celebrating the creative expressions of the Somerville community. The Board provides guidance on the City’s arts community, advises on the work and policies of the Arts Council, and engages in networking. From September through December, members participate in the adjudication process for a local grant-making program to support arts and culture initiatives within the community.

Who Can Join?

We are seeking artists or members of the general public with a strong interest in the arts, particularly those with experience in music, literature, or public art. Any Somerville resident with a passion for supporting the arts is encouraged to apply.

What is the Time Commitment?

The Board meets in person on the second Wednesday of each month. There are two additional meetings each year concerning the grant program. Members serve a term of up to three years in a volunteer capacity.

How Are Members Appointed?

Members are appointed by the Mayor of Somerville.

How Do I Apply?

Please submit a brief statement of interest explaining why you would like to join the Board and how you feel you can contribute to its work by Thursday, October 10. We welcome applications from all Somerville residents with diverse experiences, skills, and perspectives.
