The Somerville Community Corporation (SCC) is thrilled to announce that several of its affordable housing projects have received significant funding from the Affordable Housing Development Grant Awards, recently announced by Governor Maura Healey. This vital financial support is part of a larger effort to increase affordable housing availability across Massachusetts.

The SCC projects that will benefit from these grants include:

  1. 299 Broadway, Winter Hill – This project will transform the long-closed Star Market into 115 all-affordable family homes, with 16 units designated as deeply affordable.
  2. Bow Linden Project, Ward 2 – This initiative will create 60 all-affordable homes across several structures, with 18 units categorized as deeply affordable.
  3. Clarendon Hill Reconstruction, Phase II – This phase will upgrade 216 affordable homes, adding 80 moderate-income units and 295 market-rate units. The state’s contribution will fund 92 all-affordable homes, including at least a dozen deeply affordable units.

“We are so grateful for the state’s and Governor Healey’s support, which will allow us to continue our work addressing the critical housing needs of our community. We also thank Mayor Katjana Ballantyne for always championing SCC’s initiatives,” said SCC CEO Gonzalo Puigbo.

The funding is part of a $227 million package of state and federal tax credits and subsidies aimed at building or preserving 1,874 rental units across 23 cities in Massachusetts. SCC’s projects are set to make a substantial impact in the local community by providing much-needed affordable housing options and revitalizing neighborhoods.
