Life in the Ville by Jimmy Del Ponte

Growing up in the 60s and 70s, Revere Beach was the place to go in the summer. I even worked there for a while. We used to take the blue line to get there. But we went there with our parents when we were smaller. That’s where we first found love with Revere Beach and all its amusements in attractions.

Here are some reader comments.

“Every June a few friends and I would skip school on a hot day and go to Revere Beach. Always had a blast!”

“We went once a year to the Revere Beach Amusement Park with my mom when we were kids in the 60’s. She’d sit in the front Cyclone car with my older brother Big Dave. I always thought she was a bad-ass mom when she rode the Cyclone! To a 10-year-old, that thing was terrifying! And there goes my mom! Up that steep first hill with the cars clankity-clanking all the way to the top! Then it came roaring down the track with my mom smiling and leading the charge and the whole car full of people screaming! RESPECT! Ma was tough as nails!”

If Revere Beach was your destination today, you could hop on the Green Line and grab the Blue Line.

The summers I worked on the Dodge’Em cards are among my favorite memories.

Today a visit to Revere Beach will find condos and parking meters. If you’re going to Kelly’s roast beef good luck trying to find a place to park. Maybe you can leave the car home and take the T. Either way the beach itself is worth the trip.
