Stanley M. Koty III, affectionately known as “Chip”, of Queen Creek, Arizona, formerly of Somerville, MA passed away suddenly at home on May 31, 2024. He was 44 years old at the time of his passing.
Beloved husband of Carrie (Corley) Koty, Chip was born in Stoneham and raised in Somerville. He was the son of Gay (Russell) Koty and the late Stanley M. Koty
Jr. of Somerville. In addition to his devoted mother, Chip is survived by his siblings Russell and his wife Michelle of Billerica, Alison Fernandes and her husband Mark of Canton, and Caroline and her fiancé James Graziano of Somerville. He was the cherished uncle of Gianna, James, Addison, Summer, and Brynn. Chip is also survived by his loving aunt and uncle, cousins, and countless friends. Along with his beloved father, he was predeceased by his grandparents, aunts and uncles.A Somerville High School and Babson College graduate, Chip most recently spent 10 years working for Epsilon in Wakefield, MA. Chip dedicated much of his adult life to assisting others in finding recovery and found his “home” in Narcotics Anonymous. He was a loyal friend and confidant who loved fiercely and selflessly, never passing judgment. Evident by countless car rides and subsequent conversations with other recovering addicts, together he and his friends traveled the country to conventions, spreading messages of hope in recovery. Many will even say that Chip had a hand in saving their lives. In his happiest times, he was clean and sober and took pride in helping others find their way. Chip never gave up on a person struggling with addiction, and the same can be said for his own recovery.Chip learned to appreciate nature and thoroughly enjoyed going for hikes or “adventures” around Arizona. He would find joy in reminding his family and friends at home how warm it was there while we were in the middle of a blizzard or how it “rained for five minutes today.” His sense of humor was second to none and he was unapologetically hilarious. Through his goofy exterior was a brilliant man who could carry on an intelligent conversation about just about anything. His sense of Somerville Pride was unparalleled; he carried it wherever he went and made sure everyone knew where his heart was. Chip will be deeply missed
for eternity by all who loved him.Calling Hours will be held in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville on Thursday, June 13th from 4pm – 7pm.
