About the Mayor’s Summer Job Program

Every summer, the City of Somerville hires local teens to work with a variety of city departments, such as the Recreation Department, the Office of Sustainability, Parks and Open Space, the public libraries and more. Students are also placed with local businesses that partner with the program. The program encourages career exploration and skill development and fosters deeper connections with the Somerville community.

Applicants must be at least 14 years old by May 5, and either be enrolled in a Somerville school, or be a Somerville resident. The time commitment is approximately 20 hours per week for six weeks starting in July, though actual schedules will vary by job site placement. The program will require onboarding and orientation. All positions are paid. The hourly rate is $17.72.
