Police are investigating extortion allegations on Marshall Street.

The incident was reported to police on Feb. 20 but police Sgt. Neil Brennan said few details can be released.

Police said the alleged victim received a phone call from someone who said her cousin was in trouble and they needed money to get him out of trouble. The validity of the call is in question, police said.

Police said such scams are on the rise.
