Why did they let City Hall basically rot so badly? I don’t know if there are any plans to fix it up but I posted the question to my social media friends and this is what they feel about City Hall being in such bad disrepair. Here are the comments in quotes.

“I don’t think municipal budgets are an either or proposition. Maybe getting on the Alderman’s agenda might be better than a FB discussion? Maybe they spent all the money on police, or schools, or fire protection, or…?”

“The plan is to complete the building next to City Hall and then move City Hall functions there. Once that is completed, they’ll renovate/restore the current building.”

“It will get fixed when we vote them out and vote in someone who actually cares about this city!”

“I see people complaining here. I’m curious how many have called their reps about it. Or how many have called 311 about it. Or have attended public meetings to discuss it there? If all you’re doing is complaining on FB about it and commenting on bike lanes instead, you’re part of the problem.”

“I bet the politicians don’t treat their personal property this way. But to hell with the property that represents all Somervilleans both past and present.”

“I am born and bred in Somerville and moved to another state in 1978 for my husband’s job. But a lot has changed, some for better, a lot for worse. To see City Hall in such a state of neglect is disgusting. I have nothing to do with this city anymore but I can complain of the way it is not being cared for. I loved growing up there!”

With all the new construction in the city you would think that they would want to make City Hall as nice as they could especially with it being so old. It will be good to see a fully remodeled City Hall, whenever they get around to it.
