Despite a strong effort, the Somerville High swimming squad suffered another tough loss.

Following a strong start, the Highlanders lost 91-73 to Malden in Thursday’s Greater Boston League match-up at the Kennedy Pool.

Leading the way for the Highlanders was Caio Azevedo, who captured the 200-yard freestyle with a winning time of 1:51.72 along with the 100-yard freestyle at 52.87. Other top finishes for the Highlanders included the 200-yard medley relay team of Azevedo, Cam Kostopoulos, Roberto Duardo and Aaron Nevin, who grabbed first place with a time of 2:06.62. Duardo also recorded a personal best time with a time of 1:11.06 while Susanne Cho notched a time of 1:36.97 in the 100-yard backstroke.

“We knew Malden was a tough team,” said coach Mike Williams. “They have a lot of depth, but I thought our guys did a great job. We accomplished some personal bests, and I was very proud of them.”
