We
hope that Somerville Police Captain Mike Devereaux who is still out on
medical leave after that horrible accident that he had a few months
back, is back to work soon. We hope to see him out and about.

We
hear that Alderman-at-Large Jack Connolly has secured the votes for
President of the Board of Alderman for 2010 and that Alderman Rebekah
Gewirtz did the same for Vice President. We think Alderman Walter Pero
did a great job, sort of like a no-spin president up there at the head.
He was direct and to the point, and ran a tight ship.

On the School Board we heard that Mark N. secured the votes on Chairman, which will prove to be very interesting…

In
the spirit of the Holiday Season, the Saragas Eye & Laser Center is
offering free eye examinations by appointment to those without
insurance on December 24 only. Call 617-623-1990 to make an appointment
.

Let's all remember the various local
charities here in Somerville that do a lot to help those in need,
especially the Toys for Tots, Somerville Homeless Shelter and Soup
Pantry. These and all other charitable non-profits are looking for
donations still.

Rumors flying around that
various openings are being filled and the chairs are changing but some
faces remain the same. We heard that former Police Chief Bob Bradley
might come back temporarily to fill in at the Traffic & Parking
directors position. Bob has been there before, but we are still hoping
that the Assistant Director Larry Murphy will get the final node for
the job.

Congratulations to ISD
director George Landers who recently moved over to Highway Department
Supervisor (Frankie went back to his permanent job at DPW. Rumor
abounds on who the ISD director might be, we heard that Mike Foley
might come back from Framingham, but last we heard he would have had to
take a pay cut to do that…. but stranger things have happened.

Have
you seen the old abandoned Lowes Theater down at Assembly Square on
Middlesex Avenue? You can't help but think what is going on in the
parking lot with all the abandoned cars and a junk motor home that
looks occupied. This is a gateway to the city and with all the traffic
at the mall people coming in and out see this and you have to wonder
what's going on there??? Maybe someone at City Hall knows or at Federal
Realty??

Mayor Joe left for and should be
just getting back from Tiznit, Morocco with his army of Somerville
delegates! Joe and his team went there on a mission to have a sister
city in Morocco.

Don't forget January 1
at noon the 234th anniversary of the raising of the first Grand Union
flag will be raised at Prospect Hill. This is a tradition started in
the 70s but some of us remember it was done a lot earlier like at 6 or
7a.m., but noon is good and it's usually a nice ceremony and your home
in your warm house before you know it.
