Newstalk for January 6

The
234th anniversary of the raising of the first Union Flag was this past
New Years day, great weather and crowd considering last year's event.
It was also nice to see that it wasn't as political in the speeches.
The ceremony was very nice and well planned out and everyone involved
deserves a nice round of applause. This year it was done at noon –
seems to be getting later and later in the day as the years go on but
it looked like everyone enjoyed themselves.

The
inauguration Monday night at the high school was delayed a short while
— seems like the public and the crowd from City Hall was delayed but
finally made it over to the auditorium. Was a very nice ceremony; a lot
of people liked what the mayor and other elected officials said.

Senator
Gallucio had his probation revoked and was immediately sentenced this
past Monday by the judge to a year in Billerica. Already we heard one
person is out of the gate so far and is going to be running for his
seat, Cambridge City Councilor Marjorie Decker wasted no time in
showing up at our city's inauguration party at the Holiday Inn and
clearly making the rounds to all. We have a feeling that a lot of
people will be throwing there hats in the ring on this one, let's not
forget the district is a large in size, not just portions Cambridge and
Somerville but all of Charlestown, Chelsea and Everett and some parts
of Saugus. Are you getting used to these special elections yet?

Seems
like another well-known celebrity has been in and out of the Pizza
Palace down on Somerville Avenue lately. We were asked to keep it on
the QT regarding his name but they didn't say we couldn't mention it
here in Newstalk.

Coming up this month we
hear that Somerville Community Access Television will be having its
annual meeting, awards ceremony and Raffle, Thursday Jan. 28 from 6
p.m. to 9 p.m.

What has happened at the
Ball Square Café? Apparently one of Somerville's popular waitresses,
Patty Oppedisano, who has won Best Waitress two years in a row, is no
longer working there. Was that her we saw walk into Sound Bites next
door not too long ago with about 10 friends? She's looking for a job
and she comes highly respected and has great personality and most of us
here in Somerville know how popular she is. We hope she gets a job real
soon so that her legion of fans follow her to her next place. If your
looking for a waitress that has a huge fan base and want to see your
business grow overnight give her a holler. She is on Facebook so look
her up and let her know you're interested, we recommend her highly.

What's
wrong with most of these coffee shops in particular most of the
franchised DD's? Don't they know this is flu season? Watch how they
take there bare hands and firmly place the cover over the coffee so it
won't spill leaving there germs on what your about to drink out of.
Maybe the Board of Health should do some surprise inspections? You're
drinking out of that same cover with the germs of that person behind
the counter. This is simple, if you have two people to wait on you, one
to take your money and the other to make your coffee, you'd think the
one making the coffee is wearing a glove to keep it sanitized? When
they do that, ask for an extra cover that you can now replace it with.

Speaking
of Dunkin' Donuts, have you noticed there is constantly a lot of cars
in the parking lot but never a long line inside? nice of the owners
there at DD to allow free parking to what appears to be non customers.
