Night work through Wednesday, July 21
(Work Schedules are subject to change based on weather, workforce availability, supply-chain issues, and other factors)
While night work is expected to continue around-the-clock in many areas along the MBTA/GLX right-of-way, the outlook for the upcoming week (July 15-21) is expected to be somewhat less intense than recent weeks.
Notable nighttime work areas this week include:
- At Boston Ave, adjacent to the Medford/Tufts Station platform, GLXC crews are expected to wrap up the nighttime utility work as early as tonight, Thursday, July 15. The underground work is complete, and paving is expected for tonight and possibly tomorrow night if needed.
- On the entire east/north side of the Medford Branch (from Monsignor O’Brien Highway to Medford/Tufts Station), wall panel placement work may continue in a few select areas at night to fill small gaps in otherwise completed walls. In addition to wall work, the fitting out of the Overhead Catenary Poles and the pulling of catenary wires will continue.
- Continued wall placement work at the Brickbottom Condominium area off Fitchburg Street in Somerville. This work will primarily focus on the viaduct walls along the GLX Union Branch and Fitchburg Commuter Rail Line. Residents should expect the use of heavy machinery and engine noise.
- In addition to wall panel placement, signal and electrical work is expected on viaducts stretching from Lechmere Station to the Brickbottom area (Near Fitchburg Street). This work is usually quieter than wall panel placement as it does not generally require the use of heavy machinery.
