With an abundance of athletes returning, the Somerville High School boys track team has its sights set on a league championship.

Leading the way is sophomore speedster Andre Rolim, who claimed the Eastern Mass Division 1 State Championship in the 600 meters. Also providing some solid depth are senior tri-captains John Thomas in the hurdles and high jump followed by Ed Chen in the 100-yard dash and middle distance and Tim Sullivan in both the 1,000 meters and mile.

Also returning are GBL cross country stars Michael Conte, Thomas Sullivan and Andryc Evich.

“I’m definitely looking forward to the season,” said coach Dave Dickerson. “We have a lot of depth and talent, and that’s definitely going to help us in the long run. We’re hoping for a great season and chance to win the (GBL) title.”

Other key factors for the Highlanders included John DiFraia, Kevin Wint as well as McAlvan Delpe in the shot put followed by Lyndon Kaba and Bipul Pyakural in the high jump.

In the 300 meters and the 4×200 relay for the Highlanders will be Jermaine Carty, Pedro Rolim as well as Josh Scarry and Devon Hairston, who’ll provide some solid depth in both positions.

Abdi Warsame, could also add some depth in the middle distance events led by Chen, Carty, Thomas and Rolim.

Contributing in the distance events for the Highlanders will be Huang, Conte, Sullivan, Evich and Chen.
