The Somerville City Council’s Human Rights Commission meeting on March 3 concerned a letter to be drafted in the future, detailing questions for immigrant restaurant owners. Questions such as “What’s your story?” “How can the city of Somerville help you?” and “What has been your experience been like being a restaurant owner in Somerville?”
The questions are to be answered in video format and plans to distribute the video to Somerville sources are in the works, possibly even other outlets such as the Boston Globe. Ideas like adding pictures of family members and getting a videographer to film the sessions were also discussed.
A first draft of the letter is to be written soon and presented at the next meeting.
Human rights apply to all humans, before they continuing with this task I would like the HRC to be clear about, why immigrant restaurants, what is the purpose of doing this project, and what is the HRC going to do with the information? This task sounds more like the Multicultural Affairs Commission’s task.
Sounds as if someone is gathering material to use in a gubernatorial campaign on our dime.
